City Carries Councillor Kelly's Motion to Re-Establish City Staff Directory and Improve Communications

I am very proud of the two motions that I have been working on that were both carried at Council today.

In 2022, the City of Ottawa took down their public-facing staff directory, citing cyber security concerns as the reason for doing so. I believe this approach was more forceful than necessary, ultimately leaving residents without a directory to consult, and feeling like their city is less navigable and open.

My motion will re-establish a public-facing staff directory and organizational chart. This will not only make it easier for residents to reach relevant staff, but will also add new elements of transparency and accountability.

This motion makes city hall easier for residents to understand and navigate, and in my opinion, is a good step toward a better functioning and more open bureaucracy.

My second motion will establish a timeline for staff to respond to councillors’ offices and ensure that, as elected representatives, we can provide residents with timely and meaningful answers to their questions, concerns and requests, which will better support the work we’re all here to do.
