Councillor Kelly Shares Thoughts on Council’s Push to Speed Up BESS Project Approval in Ward 5

Councillor Kelly spoke at the City of Ottawa Council meeting on Wednesday May 28, 2025, after a surprise walk-on motion was tabled to speed up the process of approving the controversial BESS project in Ward 5.

"Despite the fact that the applicant has had 8 more months to try and obtain a municipal support resolution, the rules of procedure were waived and a surprise walk-on motion was tabled to speed up the process of approving a controversial project in Ward 5," Councillor Kelly said.

"While I am glad to see the Marchurst BESS will be discussed at ARAC, the sudden move seems inexplicable. I didn’t support the referral motion because I am fundamentally opposed to this procedural move. However, I am grateful for the efforts of Chair Brown to ensure it is discussed at the right committee."
