Remembrance Day 2025 in West Carleton

This morning, on November 11, I was honoured to join many members of our community in paying tribute to those who serve and have served our great nation and, of course, the many Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect democracy and the freedoms we value and enjoy, but often take for granted.

As I reflected during the ceremony, it was impossible not to think of my grandfathers, Patrick Kelly and Martin Dickson, who both served Canada during WWII. I am proud to be their grandson and I appreciate what they and many other Canadians have done and continue to do to keep us safe and free.

The annual Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony, hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 616 West Carleton, was held in Constance Bay on Saturday. Traditionally, this ceremony is held on the Saturday prior to Nov 11.

Laying a wreath at the ceremony on behalf of the City of Ottawa was a true honour. I was especially grateful to share the moment with my young daughter. As she grows, I want her to be able to understand and appreciate the immense sacrifices that were made to allow us all to live in freedom.
