Agriculture Exemption for Three-Item Garbage Limit: We Want to Hear from You!

Residential agriculture properties that receive curbside waste collection are exempt from the three-item garbage limit for unavoidable farm waste until December 2025.

The exemption means residential agriculture properties can set out three items of residential waste and unlimited amounts of unavoidable farm waste every garbage collection day, until December 2025.

Unavoidable farm waste is defined as any waste that is the normal by-product of farming operation activities including, but not limited to, plastic haylage wrappings, bale twine and rope, and plastic draining tiles.

City of Ottawa is engaging with residents about the Agriculture Exemption Program to help inform the future of the program beyond December 2025.

Participate in the survey at ottawa.ca/wasteplan to provide your feedback on the future of the Agriculture Exemption Program.

The survey will be available to complete at ottawa.ca/wasteplan from May 20 to June 30.

Environmental Education Assistants will be visiting residential agriculture properties from May 20 to June 30 to conduct the survey.

If you need assistance with filling out the survey, call 613-580-2400 at (ext. 25550).
