Ottawa Senators Anthem Singer Lyndon Slewidge Represents West Carleton-March at Council Meeting

Each year, City Councillors are invited to choose a resident from their ward to lead City Council in the singing of O Canada. After an exciting Ottawa Senators season wrapped up earlier this month, Councillor Kelly decided to go big, inviting West Carleton-March resident Lyndon Slewidge to perform our national anthem before Wednesday’s Council meeting. The longtime Ottawa Senators anthem singer didn’t disappoint.

 Councillor Kelly's introduction:

It's never been more important to celebrate our country and its sovereignty and to sing our anthem proudly. And I don't know anyone else who does a better job than our guest here this morning.

For those of you who are NHL hockey fans, this man will need no introduction. Mr.Lyndon Slewidge is not only a retired long-time Ontario Provincial Police officer, but also a decorated anthem singer, familiar with at least 13 different anthems. But many will recognize this Ward 5 resident as the official anthem singer for the Ottawa Senators between 1994 and 2016.

I have been watching him open Ottawa Senators games since I was six years old and was included in the many fans who were thrilled to see him return for the Senators' 2023-2024 home opener. And we were lucky enough to see him again this season often, including three home playoff games.

Lyndon Slewidge is the best anthem singer in the National Hockey League, and I want to thank him for taking the time to sing the best anthem in the world – O Canada – here this morning.

Councillor Kelly welcomed Senators' anthem singer Lyndon Slewidge to sing before council on Wednesday.
