Hydro One crews report they are working to restore power after severe winds caused damage and power outages across Ontario last night. This includes a significant portion of West Carleton-March and, according to HydroOne, it's affecting over 3500 customers. Several local schools have been closed as well.
In addition to broken poles, damage has largely been caused by tree limbs/trees coming down on power lines and equipment, and where the ground is very wet/soft, entire trees have been uprooted.
Our team is in contact with emergency services to ensure updates are shared as we receive them.
*** Update: I have had calls with Hydro One and City of Ottawa Emergency Operations, and visited the crews working on damaged poles on Kinburn Side Road. I am being told that the new estimated restoration time is 8pm tonight.
There are at least six crews on the ground from both Arnprior and Brockville working to replace the eight damaged poles and fix the lines. If anyone is in need of assistance, you can reach out to 311, or contact my office (ClarkeKelly.ca/contact-3), and we will do our best to help or to direct you to someone who can..
You can monitor HydroOne's outage map at this link: Stormcentre.
